Old Church, Durban

This church in Charlotte Maxeke Street was damaged in a storm. Half the roof was ripped off but the congregation continued using it every Sunday. Feral pigeons roosted in the rafters and all the surfaces had to be mopped with water before the service.

There was no security and all valuables had to be kept in the pastor’s house behind the church.

Within about three years the building was completely gone. It was a beautiful wood and iron structure.
